School Band and Orchestra:
Unfortunately, I did not have enough students for an Advanced Strings class, so the class had to be cancelled. Students may play with the beginning strings class, if they wish, or come to the Intermediate Band on Tuesday and Thursday from 2:50 - 3:20. Violinists that join the band would need to get a lesson book - Standard of Excellence Book 1 - oboe book.

Payment forms were sent home for those wanting to rent a school instrument. When payment is completed, a contract will go home and must come back to school by  Friday, August 16. If the contract is not received by the first class, the student will not be able to take an instrument home until the signed contract is returned. 

Beginning Band - Brass/Percussion began August 16. It meets every Wednesday and Friday from 2:50 - 3:20.

Beginning Woodwinds begins Monday, August 19. It meets every Monday and Wednesday from 2:50 - 3:20.

Intermediate Band Started August 8. It meets every Tuesday and Thursday from 2:50 - 3:20. They will be playing in the PATRIOT DAY CONCERT on September 10.

Steel Drums will begin August 22 at 7:30 a.m.

Beginning Strings will start Monday, August 19. 7:30 a.m. (M/W class). Please make sure you bring your black binder!

DRESS: RED, WHITE AND/OR BLUE. SCHOOL APPROPRIATE LENGHTS ON SHORTS, SKIRTS AND DRESSES. 
No Leggings, denim or tank tops. 
Shirts must have sleeves.
Can wear a Patriotic T-Shirt.

School Band and Orchestra:

Letters regarding Beginning and Intermediate Band went home to all in 5th and 6th grade on Thursday or Friday. Every student needs to return the letter - even if you have decided not to play an instrument. It is due on August 9.

If a student would like to rent a school instrument, return the letter with that indicated. I will then send home a payment form. When I get a note from Mrs. Shaw stating the rental fee was paid, I will send home an Instrument Rental Contract. This must be signed and returned, so that the student can receive their instrument at the first band class.

Check out this recent study  - 100,000 high school students were studied.
Students that took music lesson in high school did much better in core subject areas. Instrumental students score higher than non-musicians and choral students, and choral students did better than non-musicians.

Welcome to a new School Year!!
It was nice meeting so many of you at Registration!

Band and Orchestra letters will be going home with the 5th and 6th grade students on August 1. These will be due on August 9.

I hope to see many of you at Instrumental Music's Play Date on July 28 from 12-5. The whole family can come to IMC and try out all the instruments! I will be manning the Cello/Bass station, so stop and say "HI!"

7/8 Grade Band - will need Standard of Excellence Book 2 this year. You can find it at IMC or Chicago Store. Cellos should get the trombone or bassoon book and Violins should get the Oboe or Mallet book.

First Concert is on September 10 at 6:30 p.m. in the Middle School Picnic Area and Breezeway. It is our Annual Patriot Day Concert (Patriot Day is 9/11). The 7/8 Band and the 5th Grade Classes will be performing some Patriotic Music and some music for Grandparents (9/10 is Grandparent's Day).

   Practice LOGS were due on FRIDAY, May 17. 

SCHOOL INSTRUMENTS are due on May 20. 
        Instrument cases should be cleaned and vacuumed. 
          MOUTHPIECES should be scrubbed. If the Sax/Clarinet mouthpieces are gouged out where the teeth are placed - the mouthpiece will need to be replaced before turning it in.
                Instruments need to be clean and in the same condition as it was when it was issued.
A $35 cleaning/late fee will be applied for instruments being returned dirty/poor condition or turned in late.

If anyone is interested in SUMMER LESSONS - I do teach at my house (near 22nd/Harrison) during the summer. TUESDAY only, from 9 - 12. Special reduced rate for a 1/2 hour lesson is $15. Does not have to be every week - but I do need a 24 notice for cancellations.
I also teach at Instrumental Music on Mondays and Thursdays, beginning at 4:00. Cost of lesson at IMC is $25.
