GUITAR - 
Monday - No School
Wednesday/Friday: Theory page on Wednesday (Students have all the pages in their binder) Working on Warm ups - Rondo - Early One Morning - Syncopado - Lesson Book
6th grade
Monday - No School
Wednesday - Watching Film "In Tune with Woodwinds" Follow along worksheet.
Friday - Singing Day

7/8th grade
Tuesday/Thursday
      Tuesday/Thursday - Bell work - due on Thursday.
SQUILT on Tuesday - This week Johann Strauss II, Blue Danube Waltz
SINGING for the first 20 minutes of class. Then, listening again to Blue Danube, noticing the many different sections and adding some percussion instruments to each section.

Beginning Band
                    A Change!! 
Monday/Wednesday will be Brass and Woodwinds. Percussion will be Wednesday/Friday. Beginning Band will be receiving some new lesson books. Please make sure you have your January Practice Log, as some people have missed class this plast week.

6th grade T/TH Band.

GIRLS CHORUS
Last week the girls started a new grading system. They have a form to fill out every class and will use the rubric to grade themselves. This is the grade that will go into the grade book.
 Classwork on Tuesday and Thursday, on the Major scale.

STRINGS
Both String groups received a new warm up to practice intonation and bowing.
    We have been working out of our lesson books and learning new material!

THEATER
Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday - Working on small groups
Thursday/Friday - Working on movement to "Belle"

7/8 BAND
Every Friday is a playing Test!! Make up playing tests must happen before/after school. Students have the list of test for the entire year in their binder.

Working on some new music for a possible assisted living home concert.

HONOR BAND AT THE U OF A
SEE THE LAST BLOG FOR ALL THE INFORMATION! AUDITIONS ARE COMING UP FAST!

GUITAR - 
Monday - playing test on the 1st 8 measures of SYNCOPADO. It has been added to Google Classroom. The code is ycdk1yq
It must be added to the Classroom page by 7:30 a.m. on 1/14 or you will just play it in class.
    This week we are working on Early Morning, Syncopado, Rondo and we are going to try a new song - Dueling Banjos (written for guitar!)
    We will also begin our new theory pages (for M/W bell work) and work in our book.

6th grade
Monday - watching the film, In Tune with Strings, as we begin learning about the instrument of the orchestra. Follow along question page will be completed and turned in.
Wednesday - Taking a look at the violin - students will be able to try to play a violin.
Friday - Singing Day

7/8th grade
Tuesday/Thursday
      Tues - Some background information about Johann Strauss, Jr. - "The Waltz King"
Begin watching the film about Strauss, The King of 3/4 Time." 
      Continuing on Thursday with film. Follow along film questions will be completed and turned in on Thursday.

U of A HONOR BAND


 THE UNIVERSITY OF ARIZONA OUTREACH HONOR BAND 
Open to advanced band musicians
 in grades 6-9. 
Rehearsals are on Sunday afternoons from 1:15-3:45pm at the U of A School of Music.
 • Receive weekly sectionals with a master musician on your instrument 
• Work with multiple conductors on incredible band music
 • Play a concert in beautiful Crowder Hall each semester 
• Receive tuition discounts for returning students and families with multiple children attending • 

Interact with the best young musicians in Southern Arizona.
 Tuition for the semester is only $85 for new members. 
Auditions are on Sunday, September 9.

Orchestra starts up again on Monday - 7:30 a.m. (Advanced on Friday, 7:30 a.m.)

Steel Drums will take place on Thursday!

Wolves (approved by their classroom teachers) Colin, Hannah B, Belle, Sadie, Cassidie, Jacqueline, Jadon.   Please look for gray sweatshirts and gray sweatpants now,while they are still in the stores. Light or dark gray.  I have not had a chance to ask them, so if they do not want to be in the show, just let me know.

Other costume parts are still being decided. The stage design class is making Lumiere’s hands, the clock, Madame, and serving utensils.

If you would like to help Mrs. Barber with costuming  ( 5th grade parent) Please let me know.

This week in Music

This was Miss Hayes' last official week with us! She will be graduating from the U of A on December 13. In January, she will begin teaching in the Sunnyside district.
 I will be giving her a gift basket of teacher items at the concert on the 14th (she is directing!). If you would like to contribute items, cards or cash, please drop it off in the office by December 12.
PLEASE SCROLL DOWN IN BLOG ENTRIES FOR BOTANICAL GARDENS INFO AND UPDATED PARADE INFO. I UPDATED PARADE INFO ON DECEMBER 8.
All band members MUST be at full band CONCERT REHEARSAL on Wednesday and full band MARCHING
PRACTICE in order to participate. Think about it - the coach is not going to let you play in the game if you did not go to practice!
The concert and the parade are our Tournament games!

Girls Chorus and Guitars arrive by 5:30 to rehearse.
        BAND, ORCHESTRA, AND STEEL  DRUMS NEED TO   
                       ARRIVE NO LATER THAN 6:00.
Concert will end by 7:30. 
Everyone is expected to stay for the entire concert.

Concert Dress Code; (Look Professional!) (from handbook.
Solid BLACK, collared shirt. (polo or dress/long or short sleeved)
All shirts must be tucked in.
BLACK Khakis or Dress pants or Knee-length or longer Black skirt – NO DENIM.
Black socks with pants. Black DRESS shoes – NO SNEAKERS of any type. Ties are optional.
Girls may also wear a solid black, knee length or longer, dress(no sleeveless).
No Flip Flops or Leggings.
                         
December 15 –   HOLIDAY LIGHTS PARADE – Downtown.

                           UNIFORM for the parade:
Solid RED  or   Solid GREEN
Sweatshirt (layer underneath if weather is colder) - Walmart is the least expensive - go early, though! These, then, can be worn for school over school shirts.
Black Dress pants with black socks.
Comfortable walking shoes (sneakers are fine)
SANTA hat.
fingertip-less gloves, if it is colder.
and....REALLY IMPORTANT - it IS a LIGHT parade - glow necklaces, flashing necklaces, glow sticks on your instruments/hat.


5th grade; 
MONDAY, DECEMBER 10 - SEMESTER FINAL!
Black Belt Test on December 12.

7/8 Grade:
Watching a composer film - Handel's Last Chance. Follow along question page.
